Victorinox Swiss Army Alpnach Mechanical 2014 Edition

Victorinox Swiss Army is issuing three new three-hand models of its popular Alpnach collection. Masculine, sporty and stylish, they remain true to the DNA of the famous collection, which takes its name from the Swiss Army’s Alpine air base — home of the legendary Cougar AS 532 helicopter.

Sleek, sporting and masculine, the three new Alpnach Mechanical models are based on the legendary Cougar AS 532 helicopters of the Swiss Army, which are stationed at the base in Alpnach, in the heart of Switzerland. Each honours the key values that have forged the reputation of a brand founded in 1884: Swiss quality, functionality, innovation and design.

Synonymous with power and character, Alpnach watches are designed for extreme situations. The dials resemble instrumentation panels. In flight, a pilot must be able to obtain important information in a single glance. Dials, counters and displays must be perfectly legible.

The simple and uncluttered dial is divided into three concentric circles: hour markers on the outside of the flange, then the minute digits, and finally an indication of military time. The rotating bezel is engraved with a countdown. The luminescent hour and minute hands stand out from the other markings and are effortlessly easy to read. The second hand is embellished with a green or red colored tip. On the see-through case back is another eye-catching detail: the oscillating weight with four blades, just like the AS 532 Cougar helicopter.

The first model features Victorinox’s iconic red on the flange, the tip of the second hand and the leather and ballistic nylon strap. The other two models are all-black, with a ballistic nylon and leather strap or a black PVD steel bracelet.

The new editions in the collection have the same aesthetics as the original Alpnach: very graphic design; steel case with black PVD coating; all-black or charcoal grayand black dial for easy reading; and a Swiss Made mechanical movement with automatic winding.

The engine of this machine is an automatic winding ETA 2824 movement, housed inside a 44mm stainless steel case. The black PVD coating enhances its technical and masculine appearance. The strong character and design of these uniquely constructed watches are sure to appeal to everyone who knows Victorinox.
