Based in Germany, BONHOFF is an independent brand that produces mechanical luxury watches with unconventional time display. These timepieces are offered in the four-figure price range (appx 4300 Euros).
Founded by Hannes Bonhoff, the brand will make its public debut at SalonQP 2014 where the first watches will be unveiled after two years of prototyping and refinement. The watches are based on two of Hannes Bonhoff’s inventions: a time on demand display system and an integrated leather strap construction.
Hannes Bonhoff is an engineer by trade and has worked in research on engineering acoustics where he acquired MSc and PhD degrees. Inspired by the uniform use of the conventional time display throughout the watch industry, he started to develop watch concepts in 2005 and filed his first patent application in 2006. With four patents granted and counting, Hannes left a promising research career and founded the watch brand BONHOFF with a single purpose: to bring the inventions to life.
Special features of BONHOFF Watches
- Patented Display System: The display system utilizes the form of the circular display elements to facilitate a time on demand function. The time is read by manually turning the top disc which is connected to the bezel. In analogy with the conventional time display, the large display elements represent the minute and the small display elements represent the hour. The current minute is indicated when the large cirlces match and the current hour is indicated when the small circles match.
- Patented Strap Construction: As conventional lugs would obstruct the fingers when rotating the bezel, a strap construction was developed with a seamless transition to the case, except with seams leading around the case. Instead of using lugs, a single piece of leather hugs the watch creating smooth curvatures that please the fingers when turning the bezel. A double case back allows for a convenient exchange of the strap without exposing the watch movement.
The watches are produced by reputed manufacturers in Germany and Switzerland making no compromise in the technical solutions and materials used. Casing up and final inspection of the watches is carried out with master watchmaker Martin Braun.
