Rolf Lang Design Canaletto Collection

Rolf Lang Design, the Dresden based luxury watch atelier announced their entry into luxury watch industry by launching their debut timepieces collection at the Baselworld 2014. Christined as Canaletto, this exceptional mechanical timepiece collection offers stunning wristwatches with a nod to long established Saxon craftsmanship.

The Canaletto collection is named after the legendary Italian urban landscape painter Bernardo Bellotto (1721-1780).  Bellotto, who was also known as Canaletto, created several masterpiece paintings of many European cities including Dresden. The Canaletto collection takes inspiration from his precious art works.

The team members behind the Rolf Lang Design are Rolf Lang (Management, prototype construction and conservation), Irina and Anna Lang (Finishing), Marcus Werner (Engineering and Prototype construction), Sebastian Wolfram (Design and Engineering) and Andre Rammer (Assembly).

Rolf Lang is a world renowned master watch maker with more than 50 years of experience in the industry. As a skilled watchmaker, he has produced and developed many prototypes and several high horology timepieces for prestigious watch making firms like A. Lange & Söhne, H. Moser & Cie. and Tutima. As an operations manager at the Tutima GmbH in Glashütte, Rolf Lang developed and created an exceptional Minute repeater timepiece (Minute Repetition Homage) in 2012. As chief restorer of the Mathematics and Physics Salon in Dresden, he also restored many horology masterpieces of vintage value. In 2012, he decided to launch his own watch brand and in 2014, the first collection from his brand was unveiled at Baselworld.

Home to many prestigious watch making firms, Dresden has been renowned for traditional German watch making. Inspired from the grand horological tradition of the City, Rolf Lang Design develops and creates exceptional mechanical marvels by amalgamating modern techniques and the traditional watchmaking know how. Rolf Lang Design team is partnered with young and committed firms from the tradition rich Saxony area. For example, the unique free form case was developed and produced in association with Wolfram design and engineering, Dresden.

Canaletto Mechanical Calibre
The mechanical base movement combines the most important features of Saxon watch making. The grained and gold coated plates contrast nicely with the lovingly hand polished components. It measures 37mm in diameter and height is 4,8mm.  Beating at the rate of 21.600 vibrations per hour, this 17 jewels movement offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hrs. Traditional watchmaking methods are employed in the manufacturing and assembling of movements. The engraving and finishing of the movement is done by master watch makers by employing manual hand crafting techniques without any machines which demand high level of skill and hours of dedication. These process leads to the creation of unique pieces of art.
