HARRY WINSTON is introducing two new extraordinary timepieces developed using the intricate art of marquetry, a decorative art dates back to Ancient Egyptian times. The world renowned jewellery house now incorporates this he rare art in the field of contemporary watchmaking remains open to possibility. Up to six different types of mother-of-pearl have been carefully chosen for each design. Bursting with life, each design reveals the care and expertise of the artisans who created them.
Avenue C Precious Marquetry
When creating a fine jewellery design, the House’s designers and craftsmen carefully work to ensure that each diamond is set in a way that will capture the light from any direction and maximize the stone’s inherent sparkle. In this spirit, the dial of Avenue C Precious Marquetry uses a fascinating variety of mother-of-pearl to recreate the ethereal glow of this radiant light. A shimmering array of Freshwater, Tahitian, solid pink, white, and beaded mother-of-pearl defines the soft pastel palette.
Each cut-out is artfully assembled into a modern geometric motif and treated to achieve the desired color saturation. The chapter ring, shaped like an emerald-cut gem, is set with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds, highlights a second marquetry pattern, which give the impression of movement in the design. Requiring more than 50 hours of work to complete, the elegant dial is exquisitely framed by a tailored white gold case adorned with 43 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Premier Precious Marquetry 36mm
Inspired by the richness of nature, the Premier Precious Marquetry 36mm features an intricate dial that continuously enchants the eye. As if viewing nature through a kaleidoscope, the hypnotic design reveals a seemingly endless array of flora and fauna –from the brightly coloured wings of butterflies and birds, to the petals of exotic blooms.
The complex stage-setting of the dial took expert artisans more than one hundred hours of work to achieve. Like nature itself, the white gold dial is comprised of several diverse elements, including mother-of-pearl, enamel, cabochon sapphires, and exquisite diamonds.
Each material is deliberately set at different levels to create an architectural composition that plays on volumes and relief, exemplified in the varied treatment of the mother-of-pearl. The beaded and freshwater mother-of-pearl varieties are fashioned in three-dimension, while the white mother-of-pearl is engraved, intricately hand-painted or shaped like a milky-white cabochon stone. Three ‘paillonné’ (spangled) enamel areas are dusted with gold flecks, and are hand-set with diamonds and cabochon sapphires creating an intense fusion of colors.
True to Winston heritage, this incredible masterpiece is set with a stunning array of spectacular gems, including 11 cabochon sapphires and 54 brilliant-cut diamonds displayed on the dial, housed within an elegant round case, hand-set with 63 brilliant-cut diamonds.
