Grand Seiko Historical Collection “Selfdater”
In addition to the Hi-beat models, the 2014 Grand Seiko Historical collection also includes five new creations that pay homage to the iconic 1964 GS Selfdater watch.
The Selfdater watch marked an important advance in the range of Grand Seiko fifty years ago, as it took the precision and luxury appeal of Grand Seiko and made them accessible to those who wanted a Grand Seiko watch that was more practical in everyday life. The 1964 “Self-dater” was the first Grand Seiko to incorporate a date window and was water resistant to 5 bar.

The five new creations use two of Grand Seiko’s exclusive and most advanced calibers. First, three models (references SBGA103, SBGA105 and SBGA107) have Spring Drive movements. These watches house the Caliber 9R15 Spring Drive with automatic winding mechanism. It offers +/- 0.5 seconds a day precision, date display at 3H, and a power reserve of 72 hours.
Two models are in steel and one in platinum. Each stainless steel version is limited to 500 pieces. SBGA103 has a silver-color dial and SBGA105 comes with a blue dial. Both models feature stainless steel bracelets.
Proposed in a limited edition of just 50 pieces, the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Self Dater watch in platinum (SBGA107) has a cream color dial and black crocodile strap.
Secondly, two models (references SBGV009 and SBGV011) use the remarkable 9F82 quartz caliber, offering a date display at 3H.
Dressed in a 37.2mm diameter stainless steel cases, these highly advanced quartz watches come with high-torque, super-sealed movement and instantaneous date change.
The Grand Seiko SBGV009 Quartz watch is a limited edition of 1,200 pieces. It has a silver-colored dial. Limited to 900 pieces, SBGV011 comes with a black dial. Both quartz model comes with screwed stainless steel case-backs.
