Zelos Helmsman
Following the footsteps of new generation micro watch brands, Singapore based watch company Zelos introduces their debut timepiece Helmsman backed by a crowd funding campaign hosted at KickStarter.
Founded by Elshan Tang, the brand Zelos takes its name from Greek word for zeal. A graduate in mechanical engineering, Elshan Tang has been drawn to the world of exceptional mechanical watches since his young age. His quest to create affordable, yet high performance mechanical watches led to the birth of Zelos watch brand.
For Zelos Helmsman automatic watch , Elshan Tang has chosen Bronze, the material associated with human kind since the early ages of civilisation. It is one of the most corrosion resistant metals available in earth. An oxide layer, called a patina, forms a protective skin over time to protect the metal.
Here, this patina will individualize each Helmsman, making them completely unique pieces. The Helmsman is also offered in 316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel version. Each variant of the Helmsman will be limited to only 50 pieces and will be individually numbered.
Zelos Helmsman features the qualities of a modern sports watch, yet it can be worn as typical dress watch thanks to its sleek designs.
The 43mm, Bronze (CuSn8) or 316L stainless steel case is finished with three different methods: Sandblasting (for the side cut-outs), brushing (bezel and casing) and polishing (edges). The brushing and polishing of the case is specially carried out by hand. The Zelos brand logo is engraved on the crown, buckle and rotor.
The cut-outs on the sides of the case evoke a modern style. The crowns and caseback are deliberately made of steel instead of bronze to avoid the negative effects of this metal. For example, when in contact with the skin, bronze may leave green traces of non-toxic oxide. Also, with the fine tolerances required for a screw down crown, having patina or oxide build-up within the threads might affect its operation.
The Miyota 9015 is an excellent option for those who desire to manufacture affordable mechanical watches. This high grade, yet inexpensive movement is produced by Japanese watchmaking group Citizen.
This 24 jewel automatic movement can match to the specifications of Swiss made ETA movements. The movement will feature a Rose Gold PVD Rotor engraved with brand logo and Calibre details.
Zelos Helmsman features an internal diver’s bezel operated by crown at 2 o’clock to compute the duration of the dive. An internal diving bezel was chosen instead of the traditional rotating bezel to keep the design sleek. This timepiece has a water resistance of 100m; and along with a NATO strap it can be used for sea side adventures and scuba diving.
The dial has 3 levels with the embossed lines reminiscent of a ship’s deck. The dial boasts C3 Superluminova on hands and markers. A date window is positioned at 3′ o clock.
Each Helmsman will come in its own leather travel pouch along with three straps: Vintage Brown Leather, Smooth Black Leather and NATO strap.
Zelos Helmsman will be fitted with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal and the exhibition caseback with sapphire crystal offers the view of movement and laser engraved rotor.
Zelos Helmsman is also offered with scratch resistant DLC coated cases. The Company offers 1 Year international warranty for the Zelos Helmsman timepieces.
