HOUSE of HOROLOGY Bedlam Collection

House of Horology is a New York based watch brand established by Lawrence Leyderman.

After years of working at his father’s watch shop and feeling that there was not a watch on the market that had excellent craftsmanship at a reasonable price, Lawrence Leyderman decided to follow his passion for watches and launched his first collection for House of Horology called “Bedlam”. Horology (the study and science of time) and New York City were the inspirations behind the first collection, which is featured in the brand’s flagship store.

The first store is located at 193 Prince Street in SoHo, NYC and opened in November of 2012. House of Horology currently sells its debut Bedlam collection of 16 watches in-store and online. In addition, the store sells a collection of vintage timepieces.

In keeping with Lawrence’s philosophy of helping others, House of Horology has partnered with two local organizations, Stoked and Art Start, which help inner city children in need. Portions of sales will benefit Stoked and donations have been made to Art Start to aid both organizations in their goal of fostering positive childhood development. In addition, House of Horology auctioned a watch on Lastclick.com to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief victims. House of Horology continues supporting social responsibility as the brand grows.

In May of 2013, House of Horology launched the Agent Smartwatch on Kickstarter, a next-generation smart watch that uses Bluetooth connectivity to work with your smart phone. House of Horology partnered with Secret Labs, the creators of software platforms for electronics platforms for software developers, to create Agent.

The next step for House of Horology is its launch of its second line of watches and to expand into third party stores.

Lawrence Leyderman, Founder of House of Horology

Lawrence Leyderman, founder of House of Horology, was born and raised in New York City. He inherited his passion for fine watches from his father. Throughout his early childhood, his father had a watch repair shop, and by the time Lawrence had entered high school, he was working with his father part-time.

Lawrence graduated from Binghamton University and spent some time working at JP Morgan afterwards. However, the financial world failed to capture his interest in the way that working with watches had. By this time, Lawrence’s father’s small shop had expanded into the exciting world of luxury watch sales and Lawrence soon jumped on board to help.

During the subsequent eight years, Lawrence learned the watch industry inside and out. He became well-versed in all the luxury and fashion lines, their various components, and what makes for a truly excellent watch. However, over time, he noticed that there was something missing. No matter how many new watch brands came into being, they invariably fell into the “luxury group” (beautiful but too expensive for the majority of customers) or the “fashion category” (attractive and modern, but lacking the finer details of the higher-end watches).

That’s when Lawrence realized that this was what he wanted to do – to create a watch that was a perfect hybrid of the two, fashionable and luxurious. Lawrence decided to create a watch that had all of the bells and whistles of the super-luxe pieces but with a much more reasonable price tag. Thus, House of Horology was born. The inspiration for the premiere collection, titled “Bedlam” came from one of NYC’s monikers, “Babylonian Bedlam”. The Bedlam collection celebrates both a love of the science of watches and the timeless luxury of New York City itself.

Today Lawrence owns and operates House of Horology’s first flagship store on 193 Prince Street in lower Manhattan, where he plans to expand both a collection of the House of Horology watches and other branded vintage time pieces. In addition, Lawrence plans to incorporate social responsibility into his business and has done so by partnering with two local organizations, Stoked and Art Start, which help children in need.

The timepieces from House of Horology are fashionable without being over designed, sturdy without being clunky, beautifully crafted and come in an affordable price tag. The Bedlam is a square-cased, leather-strapped, photo luminescent chronograph with four distinct dials and a date indicator. You can order yours with a light or dark grey stainless steel case, and choose from eight colour options for the numerals/strap stitching, to ensure they’re totally unique each one’s individually numbered.

House of Horology followers include celebrities like Paul Oakenfold, Liquid Todd, Raekwon, Shaggy, DJ Whoo , KidMaksim Chmerkovsky (from Dancing with the Stars) , Bree Olso, Andy Milonakis, Jaslene Gonzalez (America’s Next Top Model winner), Robert McClain and Steve Maneri.
