In 2008, Switzerland’s Bassecourt based EFEJ (ESPACE FORMATION EMPLOI JURA) presented a chronograph watch called Première EFEJ. This first experience turned out to be a real success, in terms of education, media and sales.
In 2012, EFEJ renewed the approach and unveiled EVOLUTION – an exclusive and innovative chronograph retrograde watch. This original achievement once again constituted a real support in order to develop and demonstrate the skills acquired in the framework of the training provided to job seekers. The tasks and operations relating to the design, manufacture and marketing of this new watch further enrich the training provided at Bassecourt.
The EVOLUTION project testifies to EFEJ’s desire to take a new step in the organization of practical training that meets the needs, conditions and requirements of the regional labor market. By participating in real development and production activities, in close collaboration with partner companies, job seekers acquire skills that will promote their rapid and lasting integration into the labor market. In addition, the innovative and multidisciplinary nature of the project stimulates motivation and strengthens the commitment of people in their training.
The EVOLUTION project called on the entrepreneurial spirit, ingenuity and creativity of the trainers and their learners. Each EFEJ training sector was involved in the design and production of the watch and its derivative products. The design and conception of the watch and its derivative products were worked out and drawn as part of the CAD / DAO training. The participants in the CNC course performed the machining of the middle, the bezel and the back by means of numerically controlled machines (CNC).
The bracelet links have been mechanically milled and drilled. The learners who aspire to a job as an operator in the watchmaking sector carried out the transfer on the dial, the installation of the hands and the assembly of boxes, carrying out leak tests and assembling the bracelet. The steel bracelet was polished and satin-brushed link by link as part of the practical training in polishing.
Further, Bassecourt based company STYLTECH SA actively collaborated in the development of the marketing strategy and the supports necessary for the launch and the marketing of the product: promotional campaign including brochures, leaflets, personalized postage and website.
The production of this unisex watch model was limited to 100 numbered copies and offered for sale at a price of CHF 680.-
The watch is presented in a natural wood case inspired by the design initially developed by EFEJ for the furniture of the stand which hosted in 2010 the cantons of Basel-Country, Basel-City and Jura on the occasion of the OLMA in St. Gallen. This original creation in the form of a transport box, with a contemporary and sober design, was made for its part as part of the carpentry training. Its interior trim was carried out as part of the operational skills training.
Several companies actively involved in the project, delivering supplies on preferential terms or providing support and advice to trainers and job seekers throughout the project. These companies are in particular Bulgari Horlogerie SA, Joseph Baume SA and Les Fils d’Arnold Linder SA, which are the 3 main partners of the project.
