The Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen is celebrating the anniversary of its first Flagship Boutique with a special timepiece: the Ingenieur Automatic Hong Kong Flagship Limited Edition.
The 1881 Heritage Flagship Boutique Hong Kong, opened in 2009, marked a major milestone as the first IWC Flagship Boutique worldwide. It offers a unique design concept and a selection of watches exclusively available in IWC Boutiques.
As a special tribute to the third anniversary, IWC Schaffhausen is launching the Ingenieur Automatic Hong Kong Flagship Limited Edition. The timepiece, based on the IWC Vintage Collection, is limited to 188 pieces and available exclusively at the 1881 Heritage Flagship Boutique Hong Kong.
In 2008, on the occasion of its 140th birthday, IWC took six iconic models – the Ingenieur Automatic being one of them – from the company’s long history and updated them as contemporary interpretations, introducing the IWC Vintage Collection. In many respects, the Ingenieur Automatic, first released in 1955, was a quantum leap in watchmaking.
The aim was to make a perfectly protected, high-precision watch, wound solely by movements of the wearer’s arm. It was achieved in an exemplary fashion with the Pellaton pawl-winding system patented in the early 1950s. In order to conduct magnetic fields around the outside of the watch, the new automatic movement was combined with the case technology used for the Pilot’s Watch Mark 11 and housed in an additional soft-iron inner case with a soft-iron dial.
It meant that professionals like engineers, technicians and doctors, whose work brought them into contact with magnetic fields, could rely on their watches at all times. Today, the Ingenieur watch family is the epitome of tough, functional watches designed to withstand water, impacts, vibrations and temperature changes.
These technical features and the design of the IWC Vintage Collection are reflected in the Ingenieur Automatic Hong Kong Flagship Limited Edition, dedicated to the third anniversary of the 1881 Heritage Flagship Boutique Hong Kong.
The modern version of this historic watchmaking masterpiece omits the soft-iron inner case featured in the classic original, providing an impressive view of the IWC-manufactured movement 80111 instead. Equipped to meet all the exacting demands of modern-day life, this timepiece comes in an elegant color combination.
The case, made of 18-carat red gold, is combined with a black alligator leather strap, an ardoise dial and red-gold apliquées, while the tip of the second hand is highlighted in red.
