International celebrities such as actors Patrick Dempsey, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen, several NASCAR drivers have let themselves be captivated by the race and scrambled for a race number and a place on the grid.

GRAHAM wants to pays tribute to the Mecca of desert races and celebrates the technical expertise and bravery of all competitors. Down the entire length of the magnificent Baja California Peninsula, the Chronofighter Oversize Score Baja 1000 will defy the desert and the hazards awaiting the racers. The sturdy and wandering chronograph does not fear extreme conditions and has been developed to equip the modern-day Baja 1000 conquerors and extreme racers. The GRAHAM watch is already a legendary wrist machine as the performance of the historical race goes far beyond technological limits.

Sand, desert, mountain passes, hidden dry lakes, hot weather, craggy tracks…that’s the Baja 1000 race. Part of the Score Desert Series, the Tecate Score Baja 1000 is a crazy race which takes place every year in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Created in 1967, it is the most prestigious race and one of the oldest held on the rugged terrain of the legendary barren desert of Baja California. The course changes with the landscape; washouts or sinkholes can appear at the last moment and ensure a competition full of unexpected and unpredictable events. Heading down the dry, dusty and bumpy course at high speed, each vehicle kicks up a trail of dust which can be seen for miles amongst the cactuses.

To celebrate the 45th anniversary, GRAHAM has developed a collectable watch: Chronofighter Oversize Score Baja 1000. The tricky course is the driving force for the competitors to go beyond the limits of man and machine, so a great source of inspiration for GRAHAM engineers.

Like the modified 4-wheel vehicles used by the race competitors, the Chronofighter Oversize Baja 1000 has been re-engineered to fit the extreme race conditions. The start and stop lever on the left of the case, originally used by aircrew in the forties, is the renowned GRAHAM signature. It is made of plain carbon and is produced in a very specific machining process. The lever is a single piece of carbon which provides the watch with more stiffness and enhanced usability. The black ceramic bezel gives the watch its strength and shining personality.

To brave the elements, each watch is also fitted with a calculated telemeter scale. It enables to measure distances thanks to the speed of sound; by starting the chronograph when a visible event occurs (e.g. lightning) and stop it when the sound reaches the observer (e.g. thunder). As the temperature influences the speed of sound, our engineers have based their calculations on 77°F, the average temperature on Earth. The distance in kilometres can be measured on the dial thanks to the scale rim (346 m/s).

Main features also include: 47 mm steel with black PVD case, calibre G1747, automatic chronograph, 25 jewels, 28’800 A/h (4Hz), Incabloc shock absorber, 48 hours power reserve, scratch-proof ceramic bezel (Zirconium Oxide: ZrO2), calculated telemeter scale on the dial (Fahrenheit), plain carbon fibre fast-action start / stop trigger , domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces, smoked sapphire case back with Baja 1000 logo, integrated beige fabric techno-fabric strap, scratch-proof black ceramic buckle.
