The R01 Double Complication watch collection is equipped with a new and innovative REVELATION concept that meets a whole new challenge of marrying two apparently incompatible horological principles: combine ease of reading with visibility of the mechanism.

The “Revelation System®” reveals the calibre, but also provides a hierarchically organised arrangement of the secondary displays by opening the bevel, as simply as you lift the hood of the car to admire the engine. It is neither housed within the case nor the movement, but is instead an integral part of both the case and the movement.

Since the “Revelation System®” is part of the case and the movement; it required development of the exterior as done for a calibre, joining the two professions of case construction and mechanism construction: integrating their respective constraints not easily reconcilable. With 71 parts, the case is a complication in its own right.

The R01 DOUBLE COMPLICATION cases are individually machined on a computer numerically controlled machine. The production approach is reserved for niche products; since stamping techniques are generally used to ensure speed for all parts of the case.

To create a R01 DOUBLE COMPLICATION case, which weighs 154 grams when complete, you have to start with no less than one and a half kilos of gold.

The “Revelation System®” – Polarizing discs coupled with a differential

Polarizing discs
The appearance of the movement, by opening the bevel is made possible by an ingenious optical system coupling two polarizing glasses.

The REVELATION polarizing discs are mounted on top of each other: one is static while the other pivots when the watch bezel is opened. The superimposition of the nanometrical structures of their surfaces thus allows light to pass through, revealing the movement and the secondary displays beneath it.

REVELATION decided to appeal to the expertise of the famous Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique (CSEM) to create the polarizing discs. Drawing upon their know-how and their cutting-edge equipment, the CSEM engineers combined an existing treatment with one developed specifically for REVELATION in order to achieve the best possible transparency in the open position, while ensuring maximum opacity in a closed position.

The Differential
REVELATION was able to transform the vertical bezel opening movement into a rotating movement by using a worm, or Archimedes screw, coupled with a differential driving a ring fitted with one of the polarizing discs and thus enabling appearance of the mechanism. One of the world’s oldest mechanical principles, discovered more than 2200 years ago, thereby rubs elbows with one of today’s most innovative optical technologies.

The Manufacture-Made Movement – Calibre TM01- “Tourbillon Manège®”

The Calibre TM01 “Tourbillon Manège®” belongs to the noble family complications known as rotating regulating systems together with the traditional tourbillon and the carousel.

The TM01 features a new king of rotating regulating system named “Manège” or carousel because, as in a fairground attraction in which cars and horses are fixed to a rotating platform, the energy distribution and regulation organs are fixed to a rotating platform: the balance, lever, wheel and its escape-wheel are mounted on a mobile arm – the bridge of the “Tourbillon Manège®”.

The “Tourbillon Manège®” is calculated to rotate on a central axis in one minute, thereby compensating, as in a traditional tourbillon mechanism, for gains or losses in rate. An 18 kt gold ingot mounted on the far end of the tourbillon bridge serves as a counterweight to the regulating system fixed on the opposite end, thus ensuring optimal operation by achieving a subtle balance. Thanks to its four series-coupled barrels, this hand-wound movement boasts a guaranteed power reserve of 48 hours.

The R01 Double Complication Line

The aesthetic appearance of the R01 DOUBLE COMPLICATION range is unique. The watch is recognisable at a glance thanks to the four studs on its lugs securing the carrier to the case middle. One then discovers the distinctive design of the case due to its exceptional construction.

The R01 DOUBLE COMPLICATION reveals its true nature only when the user actuates the spring catch discreetly integrated within the case middle. This device serves to open the bezel and unveil the Tourbillon Manège, previously hidden from curious gazes.

The leather strap is preformed to ensure a perfect fit, while a personalised folding clasp adds the finishing touch to this horological gem designed for informed connoisseurs.
