With its dynamic sporty dial, the Academia Chronostream boasts a classically audacious design. The sleek round case lends a natural elegance to the look, with its 24 imperial columns proudly positioned on the flanks and the bezel. The self-winding mechanical movement features a robust 48-hour power reserve.
This year, the Chronostream comes in 18 carat rose gold and grade 5 Neotitanium – an innovative blend of materials characterised by extreme robustness and lightness. With its slightly larger case, the taupe grey tones of this new timepiece ensure a chic look. Originally used in the aerospace industry, grade 5 Neotitanium is a new metal whose hardness is ten times superior to that of grade 5 titanium. Used in fields as varied as surgery and Formula 1, it now finds a place in the Academia Chronostream (AC.6005.053A.M091).
The material is treated directly with electro-plasma or micro-arc plasma and anodised, and not only on the surface. In fact, the piece is plunged into a high-amperage bath, a process giving it formidable properties such as excellent impact resistance, lighter weight, and a significant reduction in seizure problems as well as the elimination of all traces when touched.
The inspiration for Chronostream is to be found in the sporting world and is designed for a young, dynamic and “sporty-chic” clientele. Its truly eye-catching dial conveys a streamline spirit and reminds us of the speedometer of a racing car. Indeed, the centre of the dial proudly displays two subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, themselves interconnected by an elegant “radiator-grille” that balances the whole design. The dial is also decorated by a refined sunray pattern that brings this additional touch of character as it further enhances the sense of speed and gives the impression of travelling through time.
The Academia Chronostream houses a robust and reliable calibre and displays hours, minutes and seconds together with a chronograph function operated by two push buttons on the side of the case. The hours and minutes hands are open-worked and in the shape of two-edged swords. The seconds are displayed in a subsidiary dial at 9 o’clock. The chronograph’s main seconds hand, thin and elegant, is placed in the centre and gracefully glides round the dial.
The Academia Chronostream fully complies with the highly demanding finishing norms of the DeWitt Manufacture: satin-brushed surfaces, polishing and bevelling. The quality of the finishing can be observed through the sapphire crystal back, which also unveils a fine DeWitt rotor, designed in-house.
Two miniature “W” signatures are to be found on the crown and on the golden buckle. Last but not least, like all DeWitt watches, it is entirely assembled, adjusted and tested by a single master watchmaker, from A to Z.
