Swiss luxury watch brand Dewitt takes inspiration from Mirabilis, better known as the “four o’clock flower” to create a new sparkling timepiece. The Academia Mirabilis, like Mirabilis flower that opens at dusk, features a subtly designed open-work between 7 and 12 that draws the eye into the heart of this watch. The delicacy of the gears, the finely sanded surface of the bottom plate and the hand-finished details all evoke a bed of vibrant, fragile flowers. A series of different levels creates relief in the dial and gives it a feeling of depth while the gentle “sun” guilloché produces a uniquely brilliant effect.

The hour and minute hands are open-worked in the shape of two-edged swords. They play with transparency as they glide around the dial. The face of the Mirabilis is only fitted with two large rose gold Roman numerals, as if it wanted to leave the hands the time to dream. A gentle tension emerges between the mix of colours and the innovative materials, giving this watch an unmistakable DeWitt look.

The Academia Mirabilis is powered with a self-winding mechanical movement with a 48-hour power reserve. 44 mm diameter case in Grade 5 Neotitanium with the traditional 24 columns carved out of the case middle. The 18K rose gold ring emphasises the crenellations of the bezel giving it a very distinctive geometric identity. And its frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour enables it to achieve a very high level of precision.

This new model fully meets the De Witt Manufacture’s standards of finishing: polished, micro-blasted surfaces and chamfered edges. A “W” is engraved on the crown and on the pin buckle in Grade 5 Neotitanium. Lastly, as with every DeWitt watch, each Academia Mirabilis is assembled, adjusted and tested from A to Z by a single master watchmaker.
