This year, Swiss luxury watch brand Jaquet Droz presents three new Petite Heure Minute Art Deco models, all reflecting the modernism of the Bauhaus movement and the tremendous creativity of the Roaring Twenties.
Made of red or white gold, with or without diamonds, the wasp-waisted bezel encloses a mother-of-pearl dial, sculpted by means of the “Ramolayé” technique, used here for the first time. Each mother-of-pearl dial with its unique moiré pattern is carefully cut out following the dictates of custom and practice, then painstakingly engraved, like a cameo.
The material is extremely fragile, requiring an infinitely delicate touch that alone can bring out the richness of ornamental motifs, as if on an artist’s canvas. There is something subtly feminine about this exercise: taking advantage of the thickness of mother-of-pearl, which is hollow in places, to create rounded motifs with a sensuous luminosity, write precious poetry with these thin layers and generate an interplay of light and shade as a background for the projection of one’s dreams, aspirations and secrets.
And because creation is an act of privilege that signifies rarity, each of these exclusive models has been issued in a Numerus Clausus edition, limited to 88 pieces.
