SEIKO Velatura 49er Class Chronograph

In 2007, SEIKO was selected as the Watch Partner of the International 49er Class Association. To mark the fourth year of SEIKO’s partnership with the International 49er Class Association, SEIKO launched a new model in the Velatura collection, housing the 7T62 Alarm Chronograph caliber.

The crown is protected from accidental shock, the case is 10 bar water resistant, the glass is sapphire and the strap is made of a polyurethane compound of great strength. To ensure that the timing information is clearly visible even when racing, the sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating and the chronograph hands are in a distinctive yellow color.

About SEIKO Velatura x International 49er Association Partnership

Velatura is built for the oceans and all its design details draw their inspiration from the instruments and mechanisms used on the world’s best and fastest yachts. The super-secure crown protection system allows the mechanism to be wound without the crown being unscrewed and pulled out.

The bezel screws have the shape of the locks on marine devices, the use of steel and urethane in the bracelet fuses lightness and strength just as racing yachts seek to do and the case back echoes the shape of the wheel on large racing yachts. Every detail is fit for purpose, and every watch is built to endure.

World class racing is the ultimate test of a great marine watch, and no class of sailing is more demanding, for a sailor and his watch, than the 49er class. One of the fastest boats on the water, and capable of speeds of over 32 knots, the 49er is a fast-growing Olympic class which now attracts the best young sailors in the world.

In 2007, SEIKO was chosen as the watch partner of the International 49er Association and Velatura has become the watch of choice for the leading exponents of this, the fastest of all Olympic sailing classes.

In 2008, SEIKO and the International 49er Association renewed the agreement and the gold, silver and bronze medalists at the 2008 World and European Championships in Australia and Spain respectively, received Velatura Yachting Timers in recognition of their achievements.

SEIKO and the International 49er Association renewed this partnership in 2009. Because of the success of this association with the world of super-fast skiff sailing, SEIKO has extended its support to the fastest skiff class for women, the 29erXX.
