Tiffany & Co. Atlas Gent Square Chronograph

Tiffany Watch Co. Ltd marks its second year of consolidated success with the launch of the Atlas Gent Square Chronograph. The Atlas Gent Square, with its robust 40 mm stainless steel case and sporty design features, exudes an unmistakable masculine appeal and joins the original Atlas Gent Chronograph family adapting its original morphology from round to square.

Hallmark features of the Atlas Gent family that identify the DNA of the newcomer include the Roman numerals on the hour track, the six matt incisions on the bezel that contrast to the polished case, the richly textured “Clous de Paris” detailing and the conspicuous lugs that unite the case and strap.

Endowing the watch with a contemporary spirit, the rectangular pushers placed at II and IV o’clock, the crown and the internal perimeter of the deep square case have been embellished with black “Clous de Paris” patterned rubber.

The dial, available in either a black or silver tone for the 40 mm model, features a central square decorated with “Clous de Paris” patterns and three contrasting sub dials with a 30 minute recorder placed at III o’clock, a 12-hour counter at VI o’clock and small seconds at IX o’clock.

Fitted with a Frédéric Piguet self-winding calibre 1285, this column wheel chronograph is widely recognized as the finest movement available ensuring the technological integrity and smooth working of both the chronograph and timekeeping functions. The transparent case back of the automatic Atlas Gent Square allows a view of the luxury finishes of the movement and the Tiffany decoration on the rotor. With a power reserve of 52 hours, the Atlas Gent Square is water-resistant to 100 meters.

The 40 mm stainless steel model comes with a handsome black alligator strap that is securely fastened to the wrist with a foldover clasp. In case there were any doubts concerning the origins of this rugged high-performance chronograph, the clasp has been engraved with the Tiffany & Co. logo that is also featured on the dial and molded on the rubber insert on the crown. For the ultimate sporty look, the Atlas Square Gent can be accessorized with a two-tone stainless steel/black rubber bracelet.

All models are also available without the chronograph function.

Movement Frédéric Piguet 1285

The Frédéric Piguet’s prestigious automatic calibre FP 1285 is an engineering breakthrough that uses a column-wheel system and an innovative vertical clutch to counteract the unique challenges posed by chronographs.

The very nature of a chronograph’s dual timekeeping and stopwatch functions exposes the movement to great duress. Even among high-end chronographs, the extreme pressure can make the gears catch causing the seconds hand to jump upon activation of the chronograph. In addition, the act of operating a chronograph steals power from the mechanism that could in turn compromise the essential timekeeping functions of the watch.

In order to address these traditional problems, Piguet developed calibre 1285 that combines a column-wheel mechanism with vertical coupling. Arguably the finest movement manufacture in Switzerland, Piguet is one of the few watchmakers to have mastered the technique required to produce the highly sophisticated column-wheel chronograph.

The column-wheel system that commands the chronograph functions in Piguet’s calibre 1285 ensures a smooth start to the sweep of the seconds hand and provides precision stop and reset functions. In addition, the column-wheel provides a delicate yet precise amount of pressure to the push buttons.

Piguet’s calibre 1285 incorporates innovative vertical coupling that ensures the energy is distributed smoothly and evenly throughout the movement allowing for unlimited use of the chronograph without any collateral effects on timekeeping.
