Seiko Watch Corporation has released a special edition Grand Seiko (reference SBGT033) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Seiko Quartz Astron, the world’s first commercially produced quartz watch. Limited to 500 pieces, this timepiece houses a specially adjusted specimen of Calibre 9F83, offering a high precision of ± 5 seconds per year.

One of the best quartz movements ever produced, the Calibre 9F series was launched in 1993. Exclusively manufactured for Grand Seiko, the Calibre 9F83 incorporates innovations like Twin pulse control motor, high-speed calendar mechanism, Backlash auto-adjustment and Super Shield Cabin Structure.

Each 40th anniversary watch houses a specially adjusted movement. The time accuracy of the Calibre 9F83, which normally has an annual difference within ± 10 seconds, has been increased to ± 5 seconds per year.

The Grand Seiko <Seiko Quartz Watch 40th Anniversary > ref. SBGT033 comes with a 37mm diameter case in stainless steel and a beautiful silvery white dial decorated with 40 crystal marks.

The world’s first quartz watch was commercialized by Seiko on December 25, 1969, and the crystal mark has been used as a symbol of quartz watches since the early 1970s. In this watch, 40 crystal marks are placed on the dial to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the world’s first quartz watch.

It also follows the characteristic index shape of Seiko Quartz Astron, the square minute scale, and the Quartz typeface. It also spotlights a day and date window at 3 o’clock and a gold-toned centre seconds hand.

 

The stainless case-back is engraved with the words “Seiko Quartz Watch 40th Anniversary” and a serial number that proves the limited number. Fitted on a stainless steel bracelet, Grand Seiko SBGT033 has a water resistance of 100 meters.
