For the third consecutive time, Piaget is supporting the Only Watch charity auction. This exceptional event, held every two years in Monaco during the Monaco Yacht Show, is under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II. All the proceeds from this auction go to support research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
For the 09 auction, Piaget is offering a timepiece commemorating the 40th anniversary of man’s first step on the moon in 1969: a Piaget Emperador coussin large moon. The result is an outstanding interpretation of the moon-phase complication. A large moon indicator is positioned at 6 o’clock in a 12 mm diameter aperture. The moon is crafted from a gold plate, heated to boiling point and then cooled down so as to create an irregular-textured and original appearance evoking moon craters.
Furthermore, the moon-phase disc is engraved with Piaget’s interpretation of the footprint left by Neil Armstrong after the first step on the moon. A unique model featuring a pure and elegant dial, the Piaget Emperador coussin large moon is equipped with the new Calibre 860P, a self-winding movement designed, developed and produced by the Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie Piaget. This 6.15 mm thick movement guarantees a 72-hour power reserve.
The back of the 18-carat pink gold case is engraved with the inscription “Only Watch 2009” and fitted with a sapphire crystal exhibition window serving to reveal the exquisite movement finishing featuring circular Côtes de Genève motifs, a circular-grained mainplate, bevelled bridges and blued screws.
