IWC Schaffhausen Vintage Jubilee Edition in Rose Gold and White Gold

The “golden age” – comprising of the Jubilee Edition of the Pilot’s Watch, Portuguese, Ingenieur, Aquatimer, Da Vinci and Portofino, each in rose gold and white gold – builds on the success of the first IWC Vintage Collection, with which IWC Schaffhausen celebrated its historic watch icons in stainless steel and platinum in 2008. The most beautiful dozen, in unlimited editions.

Taking inspiration from its traditional timepieces, IWC Schaffhausen revived its watch icons as the IWC Vintage Collection in 2008 – each in stainless steel and in a limited edition platinum version.

The first Special Pilot’s Watch from1936, the original Portuguese from1939, the Ingenieur from 1955, the Aquatimer from 1967, the first Da Vinci from 1969 and, finally, the first Portofino from 1984 are the founding legends behind the company’s present day watch families.

The IWC Vintage Collection with its six trendsetting Jubilee Edition watches now has a sequel in rose gold with a silvered dial and in white gold with a slate-grey “ardoise” dial.

The new case materials and dial finishes of this golden dozen impart a visually different character to the watches – while retaining the identical designs. The movement technology of the second IWC Vintage Collection also corresponds to that of the steel and platinum variants.

In second position chronologically, offering a retrospective view of 1939, is the Portuguese watch, a horological legend in a large format. In response to an inquiry from the company’s Portuguese clients at the end of the 1930s, it established the since unbroken IWC tradition of the pocket watch-style wristwatch.

The visual appearance of the 44 millimetre diameter and 10 millimetre thick gold case closely resembles that of the original. However, the antireflective sapphire glasses are of more recent. The transparent sapphire glass back affords a view of the IWC manufactured 98295 calibre hand-wound movement.

The first Ingenieur from 1955 with the automatic winding system developed by Albert Pellaton was in its day a horological milestone and shaped the reputation of IWC as an ideas powerhouse like no other watch company.

The Ingenieur model of the IWC Vintage Collection, with a contemporary case dimension of 42.5 millimetres and the modern IWC manufactured 80111 calibre movement, is a tribute to the quantum leap made in movement technology at that time, which enabled IWC to establish a name for it self with one of the most reliable and service friendly automatic movements.

Since 1967 and around the pioneering days of diving, the Aquatimer has been at hand in the discovery of the last paradises. Even in those early days, it made the grade through the clear, readily legible design of its dial with a rotating inner bezel.

In its latest incarnation for the IWC Vintage Collection, the Aquatimer with its 44 millimetre diameter case has achieved a further noticeable gain in legibility. It is equipped with the IWC manufactured 80111 calibre movement, naturally with Pellaton automatic winding and an integrated shock absorption system.

The IWC Vintage collection presents two new automatic Da Vinci models in 18K Gold. The first version (IW546103) has a rose gold case, silver plated dial and dark brown leather strap. The second model (reference IW546104) features a white gold case, slate-grey ardoise dial and dark brown alligator leather strap.

The new interpretation of the first Da Vinci from 1969 in its hexagonal case and with extra long markers on the dial has evolved to become a new style icon. This is a timepiece of the individualistic and avant-garde kind, which has made the leap effortlessly from the early stages of the modern era of those days into the post-modern era.

Nothing changes in this respect in the two present gold variants with a silvered dial and a slate-grey “ardoise” dial. It should be recalled here for the sake of completeness that the original variant contained the first series-produced quartz movement developed by IWC in a joint venture. However, the changeover to the IWC manufactured 80111 calibre movement with Pellaton automatic winding in the IWC Vintage Collection is a welcome tribute to progress.

The Portofino is the secret star of the IWC Vintage Collection, a position which it owes without any doubt to its genes and its origins: with this watch, IWC celebrates the legendary original model of the elegant, timelessly classic Portofino family, which sprang directly from a pocket watch in 1984 and – then as now features a moon phase display.

The Portofino is powered by the newly developed IWC manufactured 98800 calibre hand-wound movement. The Portofino model of the IWC Vintage Collection has also retained other features of the historic predecessor, including the elegant Roman numerals and the slender form of the hands. The sum of all its parts preserves its character as a distinctive pocket watch-style wristwatch.
