Miniature painting on the mother-of-pearl calls for exceptionally sharp eyes and dextrous hands. To complete a single dial, the painter can spend up to 70 hours, peering attentively through the binocular magnifier. This unique piece is painted lacquer encrusted with coloured mother-of-pearl, underlined with pure gold leaf. Three decorative techniques have been used: a painted opaque lacquer, a translucent lacquer on mother-of-pearl and gold leaf.
