Backes & Strauss -The Regent 1609 AD Limited Edition

The Regent 1609 AD Limited Edition watch collection consist of 219 models – the age of Backes & Strauss founded in 1789. In celebration of Sir Thomas Harriot, the British astronomer who first mapped the moon nearly 400 years ago in 1609, part of the dial on the Regent 1609 AD shows the different phases of the moon in midnight blue, each set with 17 ideal cut diamonds depicting the Great Bear Constellation.

Crafted in 18 carat white or rose gold, this is a very limited edition collection of 219 pieces in each size, 40X47mm and 44X52mm, with different diamond settings.The collection was first presented at WPHH April 2008.

Shown here is the new Regent 1609 AD, size 44X52 in both white gold, which has 99 diamonds weighing 11.34 carats. There are 64 invisibly set baguette diamonds weighing 11.01 carats, as well as the Backes & Strauss signature “Jewel in the Crown”, a .19 carat ideal cut round diamond set into the crown.This is a minor complication watch with a “Grande Date” at 12 O’Clock, and Moon Phase mechanism at 6 O’Clock.
