In 2009, Victorinox celebrates 125 years of Swiss ingenuity since its foundation in 1884, from the brand’s Original Swiss Army Knife introduced in 1891 to today’s versatile collections of cutlery, Swiss Army Knives, apparel, travel gear, and timepieces that exude the brand’s practical luxury positioning.
To mark this anniversary, each segment of the brand will issue special and limited edition products, all proudly emblazoned with the philosophy of all Victorinox products: “125 years, your companion for life”.
For Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces, 2009 provides yet another reason to celebrate: the 20th anniversary of the first Swiss Army timepiece. Since their inception in 1989, Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces have been steadfast in the commitment to produce high quality Swiss Made watches inspired by the intrinsic qualities of the Original Swiss Army Knife: ingenuity, functionality and reliability.
A double anniversary calls for double the special edition product, so Victorinox Swiss Army is issuing two Special Edition models from its new Infantry Vintage collection: A Jubilee Special Edition, which will be produced exclusively in 2009, and a Limited Edition, with a unique combination of deep red and yellow gold dial coloration, which will be limited to 125 numbered pieces worldwide. Both models feature a commemorative engraving on the caseback with Victorinox’s anniversary seal, “125 years, your companion for life”, surrounded by the brands cross and shield logo.

The Infantry Vintage, with its mid-century retro-styling, takes inspiration from Victorinox’s roots of producing military-grade precision instruments. A key feature of that inspiration is the telemeter scale around the dial: together with the chronograph’s seconds hand, it enables the measurement of the distance between the sight and the sound of an event. Originally used in artillery, it can today be used for instance to measure the distance of an approaching storm by the time elapsed between the sight of a lightning and the sound of thunder.

In celebration of the125th anniversary of Victorinox in 2009, the Limited Edition of the Infantry Vintage chronograph will be produced only in 125 numbered pieces worldwide.
This anniversary model is an exclusive interpretation of the new Infantry Vintage line from Victorinox Swiss Army presented in 2008, with its large 44mm case and distinct 1940’s styling. However, the olive dial color, inspired by the U.S. Army Dodge trucks of World War II acquired in large numbers by the Swiss Army, has been replaced by a unique Victorinox red with yellow gold accents. The beautiful high-quality leather strap showcases the deep Victorinox red as well, with cream contrast stitching for a highly exclusive edition. The Infantry Vintage Limited Edition features additional unique attributes that set it apart from the regular collection. First and foremost, the screw-in caseback is engraved with Victorinox’s anniversary seal, “125 years, your companion for life”, together with the brand’s cross and shield logo and the limited edition number of the individual timepiece. The dial features the indication “Limited Edition” and “125 years”, as well as a distinctive yellow gold colored highlight of the 30 minutes chronograph sub dial and the telemeter scale.
