Released in 2001 to commemorate the beginning of the 21st Century, this Seiko Prospex Flight Master model (reference SBDS002) houses a full-scale self-winding mechanical chronograph movement designed and manufactured by Seiko.
Limited to 300 pieces and released in Japan in May 2001, the Seiko Prospex Flight Master Mechanical Chronograph 21st Century Commemorative model (reference SBDS002) had a retail price of 380,000 yen.
Designed for professional pilots, this 44mm watch features a bright titanium case and rotating bezel. Some parts of the watch feature brown IP coating. The Seiko 6S37 automatic column wheel chronograph movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal glass. In addition to time and chronograph (30 minute, 12-H and centre second), this model also offers date and power reserve display functions.
The case-back is laser-marked with the letters “21 CENTURY LIMITED EDITION” and the serial number, which proves that it is limited to the 21st century. Anti-reflective coating is applied to both sides of the dual curve sapphire glass to ensure high visibility.
The theme color of the Seiko Prospex Flight Master 21st Century Commemorative watch is the brownish color of the jet engine. This color forms as a result of jet flames’ constant contact with the metal parts of the engine’s exhaust. To create this theme, Seiko adorned the bezel and bracelet’s middle links with the newly developed brown IP. The dial also features this distinctive brown color. In addition, the main dial has a wafer pattern surface.
This 21st Century Commemorative model belongs to the Prospex Flight Master Mechanical Chronograph series equipped with the Seiko 6S37 caliber. This exclusive collection also includes two more references: SBDS001 (non-limited model with bright titanium case and black dial) and SBDS003, a 300-piece limited edition featuring bright titanium case , black dial and a slide rule bezel.
