Seiko has expanded its Spring Drive collection by introducing a new chronograph (reference SPS003) model.
In 2007, Seiko introduced its first chronograph watch with a spring drive movement. Made of high-intensity titanium, this timepiece (SPS001) was limited to 300 pieces. Seiko SPS003 is the latest evolution of the Spring Drive Chronograph.
The 5R86 movement of the Spring Drive Chronograph is a masterpiece of luxury watchmaking. 50 jewels ensure the highest precision of the movement, which consists of 416 parts. The chronograph not only offers a stopwatch with a maximum deviation of one second per day, but also has a GMT display, date and a power reserve of 72 hours. The movement incorporates a vertical clutch to ensure the precise work of the chronograph and a column wheel to ensure maximum reliability and stability.
Limited to 300 pieces, the new watch has a 45mm diameter case in stainless steel. In comparison with the Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph SPS001, this timepiece features some design enhancements. For example, SPS003 (SPS003J1) has a tachymeter bezel instead of the plain bezel. Moreover, the dial layout has been redesigned.
The black dial features two silver sub-dials (chronograph 30 minutes and 12 hour) with red hands and black numerals/ markers. At 9’ clock, it has a small-seconds indicator with white numerals/markers. Positioned near 7 o’ clock, the power reserve indicator features red, grey and white segments. It has four centre hands: hour, minute, chronograph 60 seconds (with red + grey color) and GMT. The black GMT hand features red-color arrow pointer. The watch indicates the date at 3 o’clock (white digits on black back ground).
The dial features applied index hour markers, a dial ring for tracking 1/10 chronograph seconds and a 24-H outer dial ring for tracking a second time-zone or GMT. The indexes and hour, minute hands are enhanced with LumiBrite luminescent coating.
The 5R86 Spring Drive Caliber can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. Its oscillating weight is engraved with SEIKO SPRING DRIVE. The movement plate features inscriptions 55 JEWELS, 5R86A and JAPAN. Secured with four large screws, the steel case-back ring is engraved with “Limited Edition XXX/300”, Caliber & Case numbers (5R86 0A G0) and other details.
The Seiko SPS003 Spring Drive Chronograph is a limited edition of 300 pieces worldwide.
