Giuliano Mazzuoli presents the Contagiri watch in two limited editions: a Black DLC Stainless steel version in 999 pieces and a Carbon Fiber with 18K White Gold version in 365 pieces.
Driven by an exclusive mechanical automatic movement, Contagiri hosts a number of innovations. Firstly, the watch does not have a crown for setting the time or winding the movement. For this purpose, it uses some interesting methods as explained below.
How to wind the movement/set the time of the Giuliano Mazzuoli Contagiri watch?
The Contagiri watch does not use a crown to wind the watch or to set the time. Instead, it has a lever similar to a “gear shift” and through the lunette of the watch you can carry out the functions usually done through the crown. In the circular aperture the Giuliano Mazzuoli logo marks the position of the gear with number 1 indicating the position to wind the watch, and number 2 indicating the position to set the time.
By pushing the lower part of the lever (the gear shift) towards the watch, the upper part of the lever will come out allowing you to push it out a few millimeters.
The Giuliano Mazzuoli logo will disappear and in its place the number 1 will appear. In this position the watch is in winding position and the watch can be wound by turning the lunette clockwise or counter clockwise like you would through a normal crown. Pushing the lever back towards the watch, the Giuliano Mazzuoli logo reappears and the small hand in motion indicates that the watch is running normally and the “automatic” watch if worn will continue running.
Setting the time
From the winding position (the watch indicates the number 1), by pushing the lever out a few more degrees the number 2 will appear. By turning the lunette clockwise or counter clockwise the time can be set. By pushing the lever towards the watch until the Giuliano Mazzuoli logo reappears, the small hand on the watch will start to move and the watch will start running again.
The dial layout of Contagiri is also unique in nature. The dial hosts a 270 degree retrograde scale instead of traditional layout for representing 1 to 12 hour markers and minute scale. The large center-hand indicating the time follows this scale.
The indicators between one hour and another indicate the minutes as follows: the first short line indicates 15 minutes, the long line at the center indicates the 30 minutes, and the other short line indicates the 45 minutes. The red-tipped small hand that completes an arc of 360° does not indicate the seconds but confirms that the watch is running.
