Continuing in the spirit of company founder Paul Wyler, the Wyler Genève Chronograph offers the ultimate in shock protection in a unique and resolutely sporty design. This timepiece is available in a strictly limited edition of 3,999 pieces in a choice of red gold, platinum, titanium or stainless steel and incorporates a triple protection system that consists of a sprung case, unique crown protector and Wyler’s original shock-resistant Incaflex balance wheel in the movement.
The Wyler Genève Chronograph’s original case design involves a sandwich-style construction in which the movement is first encased in a titanium holder that rests in a carbon-fibre frame. The front and back of the case, as well as the rubber strap, are then attached by sprung screws that act as shock absorbers and suspend the movement inside the case. The case and strap therefore form one robust unit and the only remaining area of vulnerability of the watch – its crown – is fully protected by a crown protector on two sliding pins that must be fully retracted before the crown can be operated, thus ensuring that the crown cannot transmit any shocks to the movement.
A sporty dial with a touch of luxury: the black base is divided into inner and outer zones with contrasting brushed surfaces. These are separated by the applied counter ring that is secured with screws and includes the date window at 4 o’clock. The luxury finish is completed by individually applied Arabic numerals and an applied Wyler name. Matching skeleton hands with luminescent tips display the hours, minutes and chronograph hours and minutes, whilst red hands are responsible for the central chronograph seconds and continuous seconds.
The personalised self-winding chronograph movement is visible through the sapphire crystal aperture in the case back. One is immediately drawn to the striking oscillating weight in blackened heavy metal, whose drilled design is yet another feature that alludes to the world of automobiles, recalling drilled aluminium pedals or ventilated disk brakes, for example. The distinctive Incaflex balance wheel design, with its curved flexible arms designed to absorb shocks, can also be seen in the 12 o’clock position. The separate screw-in inlay surrounding the sapphire crystal aperture is engraved with the Wyler logo as well as the unique number for each limited-edition piece and a reminder of the precious materials used in its construction.
Undoubtedly the most intriguing aspect of the Wyler Genève Chronograph, the four visible sprung titanium screws show off the watch’s unique suspension system. The custom-built screws fix the separate case front and back to the carbon fibre middle section in which the movement is suspended in its titanium holder. Thanks to the sapphire crystal apertures surrounding the screws, the whole intricate system can be seen in action as it elegantly absorbs any pressure on the watch movement.
The Wyler Genève Chronograph’s strap is fixed directly to the case to further increase the robustness of the watch. It is made from durable natural rubber with the signature Wyler “W” pattern and secured to the buckle by ultra-strong titanium pins.
The crown protector on the Wyler Genève Chronograph is unique in the world of watchmaking. It is secured by two pins to protect the crown from shocks and must be retracted on both sides before the crown can be used to adjust the watch. This striking feature is boldly engraved with the Wyler name.
