For ladies who have certain expectations in terms of the internal workings and dimensions of a watch, but who nevertheless do not want to surrender trendy feminine aesthetics, unveiled by OMEGA in 2006, the “Speedmaster Ladies’ Automatic with diamonds” – a contemporary, and above all feminine, interpretation of traditional mechanical watchmaking.
The harmonious combination of exemplary design and the fine art of watchmaking has always been one of the greatest challenges for the watch industry, since mechanical watches of the highest precision require an elegant, contemporary, or even innovative exterior in order to emphasise, as stylishly as possible, the high quality of the interior. The ability to bring together all these characteristics in a watch is what first made the “Moon Watch” famous over three decades ago.
The name Speedmaster stands not only for a chronograph collection of the highest technical order, but also for a design with universal appeal. Equipped with a calibre designed by Albert Piguet at Lémania and encased by Pierre Moinat, the “Speedmaster”, which first appeared in the collection in 1957, entered this history books thanks to its lunar landing and has since remained a cornerstone in the OMEGA product range.
Originally conceived to meet the technical demands of high-speed motor racing drivers and later flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions in 1965, the “Speedmaster” became a byword for robust, sporty and masculine wrist chronographs.
With a case diameter of 38.8mm it was designed primarily to be worn by men. However, the first series of the “Speedmaster Racing”, with slightly reduced dimensions, showed that ladies were increasingly interested in mechanical chronographs, provided that they could be worn comfortably on the smaller wrist of a lady. All the more reason, therefore, to adapt the design of these mid-size (35.5mm) watches to feminine tastes.
The result is the OMEGA Speedmaster Ladies’ Automatic with diamonds – a chronograph with a truly glamorous design, mother-of-pearl dial and diamond-studded bezel, with a heart that beats for those who love mechanical watches: a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement, OMEGA calibre 3220, rhodium-plated and with Geneva wave decor. The movement has a power reserve of 40 hours.
Feminine aesthetics and watchmaking tradition are combined in perfect harmony in this model: the glistening bezel, studded with 49 diamonds, surrounds an elegant white mother-of-pearl dial with large coloured numerals (pink, red, blue, green, orange or white). The dial is protected by scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. To address technical standards, the watch is also water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet).
The OMEGA Speedmaster Ladies’ Automatic with diamonds is available either with alligator straps that match the fashionable colours of the numerals on the dial or a stainless steel bracelet with striated finish on the central section and polished external sections. As a result, this timepiece is guaranteed to make heads turn!
