Longines Les Elégantes de Longines Edition 2007

This ladies watch collection takes inspiration from the designs of the art deco era i.e 1920s. For the 2007 Edition of Les Elégantes de Longines line, the Swiss watch brand created three exquisite jewelled watches that take their inspiration from authentic creations by the maison in 1917 and 1918. These watches are made in limited in number to 20 items per model.

Thanks to the introduction of wristwatches in the early 20th century, requiring smaller movements with higher performances, watchmakers and designers could finally give free rein to their creativity. Watches, hitherto hidden in a pocket, became a fully visible accessory, an item of jewellery. Initially only worn by men, they were soon used to decorate the wrists of highly fashionable women too.

Even at this time Longines was esteemed for its watchmaking expertise and its artistic creations. It was with this spirit that it created a collection of marvellous jewelled watches, introducing watchmaking to art deco. With a rectangular or oval case in white gold, richly studded with diamonds, they were to make every woman’s dream come true.

The main feature of the models of this sixth collection of Les Elégantes de Longines is the rectangular or oval shape of the cases in 18 carat white gold, with the sides entirely hand engraved with decorative patterns of the age, embellished to perfection by the mounting of 34 to 46 brilliant and sparkling Top Wesselton VVS diamonds, for a total of 0.566 to 0.78 carats. The rhodium-plated dials bear painted Arab numerals and railroad minute markers, while a strap in white satin adds to the perfect elegance of these wonderful “jewels”.

True to tradition, the precious Les Elégantes de Longines collection is enlivened by hand-wound manufactured mechanical movements dating from the 1970s. The calibre L805 movement, with a diameter of 5 3/4 lines, has 18 rubies and 21,600 alternations/hour, while the power reserve is 28 hours.
