Following on from the hugely successful Wyler Zagato watch launched in October 2007, Wyler Genève presented a new Power Reserve model at Baselworld 2008 in its standard collection. At its heart is a new manufacture caliber with a 10-day power reserve.
The WM2 uses the unique Wyler Genève anti-shock case design in which the movement is sealed in a titanium container held in place by a carbon-fibre resin frame that is sandwiched between two metal plates. The four polished titanium screws holding this construction in place are mounted on springs, allowing the movement holder to move up and down within the frame and therefore absorb shocks. A patented crown protector, which is attached directly to the carbon-fibre frame and must be opened on both sides, offers additional protection for the watch’s time-setting mechanism.
In this power reserve version, the watch is characterized by two distinctive features: The first is a dial that features Wyler Genève’s signature carbon-fibre-like pattern. The “rice grains” of the pattern are hollowed out, which gives a new lightness to the dial and at the same time tantalizes the wearer with a peek at the very special manufacture movement beneath it.
The second is that there are no letters or numbers other than the company name in hollowed out of the dial and “SWISS MADE” at 6 o’clock on the minute track, which creates a truly minimalist, sleek look for the watch. Furthermore, the dial offers an unusual symmetry with the power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock mirrored by the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock, both surrounded by applied rings. The only subtle differences between the two subdials are in the graduations and hands used.
The manufacture movement offers a minimum power reserve of 10 days that is achieved by the use of three barrel springs operating in series. The hand-wound movement has a distinctive design visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back, with the subtle engraving “WYLER GENEVE WM2”.
The Wyler Genève WM2 is available in 18-carat red gold or titanium, with the hour markers and subdial rings matching the colour of the case. Both versions come with a black dial and matching black natural rubber strap, which is imprinted with the same pattern found on the dial, is fastened by a buckle in the same metal as the case. Like all Wyler Genève timepieces, the WM2 comes with a two-year international warranty and its inner movement case is water resistant to 50 metres.
