Longines Heritage “History of a Legend – A Tribute to the Pioneers of Aviation” Limited Edition

Introduced in 1997, this Longines special watch collection pays tribute to the pioneers of aviation.

Founded in 1832, Longines celebrated 165 years of watchmaking tradition in 1997. This limited edition Heritage Collection is a tribute to the aviators who conquered the skies. A tribute in the form of a limited edition set of three “navigation” watches in a beautiful wooden presentation case entitled “History of a legend – a tribute to the pioneers of aviation” and individually numbered 1 to 1000.

Longines has always accompanied the pioneers on their exploits. Explorers of the poles were the first, then those of the skies. In addition to Lindbergh, Weems and Byrd, Longines experienced a veritable symbiosis with the greatest aviators of the first half of the century. The prestigious names recorded in the conquest of the skies are also landmarks in the history of Longines.

Three models inspired and created by Longines for the famous Commander Philip Van Horn Weems, the inventor of the Weems System of Navigation in 1927. A system used by numerous pioneers of aviation, also loyal to Longines.

The 1997 Longines limited edition Heritage collection set includes an Automatic chronometer, officially certified by COSC (official Swiss government chronometer testing station), and Automatic chronograph and an Automatic World Timer (24 time zones).

Made of stainless steel, all three models feature transparent backs to reveal the fine craftsmanship of the movement.

The Longines Automatic Chronograph (reference L.2.615.4.13.2) has a case diameter of 41mm. Equipped with Calibre L 667.2 (base ETA 7750), it displays 30 minute and 12-h chronograph counters at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, respectively. At 3 o’clock, it features a date window and at 9’ clock it has the small seconds dial. The outer dial ring has tachymeter scale.

The Longines Automatic World Timer (reference L.2.614.4.13.2) is driven by the Calibre L 635.3 (base ETA 2824-2). It features a 38mm diameter case. In addition to the time (hour, minutes, seconds) and the date (at 3 o’clock), the watch offers a 24-time zone function.

The Longines Automatic Chronometer (L.2.613.4.13.2) has a 38mm diameter case. It houses the COSC-certified self-winding Calibre L 622.2, which drives the hour, minute, seconds and date functions.

All the three watches from the Heritage Limited Edition “History of a legend – a tribute to the pioneers of aviation” series feature matt white dials, blued hands and brown crocodile straps.

This set is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
