ORIS Classic Worldtimer

Introduced in 1997, ORIS Worldtimer is a multiple time-zone watch designed for individuals travelling and communicating over vast distances.

Soon after its launch, this automatic timepiece won the silver medal (second place) in the “Best Watch of the Year 1997” awards by Swiss watch magazine “MontrePassion – Uhrenwelt”).

The ORIS Classic Worldtimer watch is equipped with Calibre 690, an innovative self-winding mechanical movement based on ETA 2836-2.

The Classic Worldtimer exists in two case sizes: 35mm and 37.50mm. Made of stainless steel, this timepiece is also available in gold-toned versions. This watch was offered with a leather strap or metal bracelet.

Calibre 690 is a 30 jewel movement with a power reserve of 38 hours. It displays two time zones. The first one is displayed on the main dial using centrally placed hour and minute hands.

At 3 o’clock, the watch has a subsidiary dial with hour and minute hands for indicating the second time-zone. At 9 o’clock, the dial features a small seconds counter with a red hand. The date window is placed at 6 o’ clock.

The hands displaying the hours and minutes of both time zones are treated with luminescent coating. The dial also features two triangle markers: first with a plus sign at 4.30H and the second with a minus sign at 7.30H. These markers remind the user about the positions of plus and minus pushbuttons for adjusting the local time.

By pushing the plus or minus button, the local time moves backwards or forwards by one hour without affecting the watch’s timekeeping. The second, analogous time indicator simultaneously tells the time in a different zone at a glance.

The watch also features an additional day and night indicator. When you adjust the local time backwards or forwards across the date change, the date indicator also changes automatically.
