Oris “Wings Around the World II” Limited Edition

In 2003, Swiss watch brand Oris sponsored a special charitable mission of Polly Vacher MBE, the English aviator specialising in long-distance solo flights.

Oris was a sponsor and the official watch partner of ‘Wings Around the World II – Voyage to the Ice’, the record flight of the English pilot Polly Vacher in a single-engine Piper Dakota aircraft to raise funds for the charity ‘Flying Scholarships for the Disabled’. On 6 May 2003 she set out from Birmingham Airport. After flying over the North Pole, Antarctica and all seven continents, she returned on 27 April 2004, becoming the first solo woman flyer over the Polar Regions.

To support this historical event, Oris created the “Wings Around the World II” Limited Edition watch from its iconic Big Crown collection.

This automatic watch in stainless steel features 40mm diameter case and an extra large pilot crown. Equipped with self-winding Oris 654 calibre (base ETA 2824-2), it displays hours, minutes, seconds and pointer date.

The Oris Wings Around the World II watch was limited to 2,000 watches, all individually numbered. The black dial displays the ‘Wings Around the World II’ logo. Its stainless steel case back is individually numbered from 0001/2000 to 2000/2000 and bears Polly Vacher’s signature.

The Wings Edition was an exclusive set, including maps of historic expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions – complemented by a depiction of Polly Vacher’s route.
