In 1998, Oris honored one of the world’s most influential guitarists, John McLaughlin, by producing a limited edition watch.
Born on 4th January 1942, John McLaughlin is one of a select number of British born musicians to have made their mark as major forces within a jazz world dominated by the American mainstream.
Limited to 900 pieces, each individually numbered watch bears John McLaughlin’s signature on the stainless steel case back. Based on the Big Crown Commander collection, this special edition has an automatic movement, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a screw-down security crown and is water-resistant to a depth of 50 m. The distinctive black Arabic dial has luminous hands and indices, and features a yellow pointer calendar and a small seconds dial.
The engine powering this timepiece is Oris 644, a self-winding movement based on the famous ETA 2836-2 caliber.
Each McLaughlin Jazz watch was supplied with its own special presentation box with a CD of “The Heart of Things”, on the Verve label, the music performed at the Oris London Jazz Festival 1998 as part of his first tour of this album.
